Olicom Africa and PQ Holdings subsidiary, Diamond Network Technologies (DNT), have signed a distribution agreement whereby DNT`s Di-NIC range of remotely manageable network interface cards will now be marketed through Olicom`s channel infrastructure in South Africa.
Targeted at medium to large corporate markets, the Di-NIC range of cards facilitates complete control and management of remote networked workstations and banking ATMs in operating-system absent environments.
The Di-NIC range also provides user management profiles, a built-in packet analyser, a network traffic monitor and remote asset logging and protection - together with pre-boot multi-level security access and effective and practical generic virus and data protection methodologies.
"This allows for the safe remote control of all Di-NIC equipped workstations as well as access to remote workstation resources," says Olicom Africa country manager, Nick Muller.
"For example, remote hard drive access allows an authorised user to re-format and install new operating systems, and also repair critical boot components. These features are also key to Y2K implementations and upgrades.
"Diagnostics on selected hardware can be performed due to the full IO access Di-NIC provides on the remote client workstation in pre-boot configuration.
"DHCP and Boot-P compatibility are included for the easy management of remote workstation IP addresses. Di-NIC pre-boot features allow full interrupt and IO access on the remote client work station," he explains.
All Di-NIC supported network cards incorporate a flash memory for simple local or remote upgrading.
"The cards provide full interrupt and IO access with extended API for OEM`s wishing to gain the advantages of pre-operating system remote management.
"They also feature Net-PC compliance incorporating UNDI (Universal Network Device Interface), PXE (Pre-operating system Execution standards), MTFTP, IP, UDP, DHCP and other standards," says Muller.
The cards allow independent services to be loaded before boot-up time on all remote client workstations, offering the added benefit of lowering network bandwidth requirements for management and maintenance.
All software upgrades are provided free of charge as part of a Di-NIC five-year warrantee programme.
