The latest market research from industry research firm, the Dell`Oro Group, confirms that Olicom delivered 29% of the total port shipments world-wide during the period. This is up from the 23% mark posted in the last quarter of 1997. This performance is chiefly attributed to the success of Olicom`s latest addition to its product portfolio - the CrossFire 8600 Token Ring Switch - released late last year. The Dell`Oro Group research also showed that the total worldwide market for Token-Ring switching nearly doubled year-to-year, indicating strong market demand for Token-Ring switch solutions. The total world-wide market for Token-Ring switching was 103,700 ports in Q1 1998, compared with 57,500 ports in Q1 1997. "Olicom`s CrossFire switch ushered in a new generation of switching solutions for Token-Ring users," says Olicom Africa country manager, Nick Muller. "It offers functionality that has proved critical in addressing the needs of the typically bandwidth-constrained Token-Ring network." Muller says that Token-Ring users are clearly showing a vote of confidence for switching as an effective upgrade path, and Olicom`s increasing market share is a clear indication that the company has successfully addressed the most pressing issues faced by Token-Ring users today. "The strong overall market growth we`ve seen over the past year indicates an increasing maturity in switching solutions, increasingly capable of meeting users` needs," he adds.
