As a result of deregulation and increased competition, the telecommunications sector today consists of myriad networks. While most telecommunications service providers own partial networks, few have deployed end-to-end countrywide networks, and a number have used inferior equipment to roll-out their networks, leading to inferior quality of service.
This is the reason that companies need to evaluate their service provider's network as well as its offerings, says Jaco Visagie, co-executive at Skywire. "Whatever business application you need met, be sure to consider what tier your available bandwidth providers are in your purchasing decision. Ignoring this factor in your deliberations may result in less than optimum implementation and satisfaction in the end. Make a smart business decision. Leave nothing to chance," he says.
"Two important factors to consider are the provider's access to content and the quickest route. How close is your Internet provider to the content you want to download? Essentially, the more 'hops' there are between two points along a network, the higher the latency, which affects overall performance. The provider that makes routing choices based on a variety of factors such as performance, flexibility, quality, and redundancy helps to ensure that IP traffic will be routed across the path with the fewest hops (most direct and closest path), which in turn makes for a better user experience."
Skywire has focused its business model on creating a one-stop telecoms shop in order to deliver content more efficiently for and between its customers. Having built its own world-class countrywide network, the company offers a wide range of connectivity solutions, including fibre, wireless, and satellite.
The company's goal is to ensure the best service possible from a cost and quality standpoint. "We provide the optimum network backbone for businesses with critical reliability, stability, and scalability requirements. By also using the PSTN network, we ensure that connectivity is always done via the shortest route, and our solutions are all grounded in providing not only physical connectivity, but data and voice services," explains Mondi Hattingh, co-executive at Skywire.
He adds that companies should consider a variety of factors when choosing a provider, including quantity and quality of the service, the provider's ability to provide quality end-to-end solutions, and the companies the provider partners with. "And you can't forget the quality of its technical and customer service. By focusing on deploying a world-class network, we have ensured that our service and solutions not only meet these criteria, but exceed them," Hattingh concludes.
