Oni boosts Spain-Portugal fibre link
Alcatel-Lucent has partnered with communication services provider Oni to establish a superfast 100 Gigabit-per second connection over the fibre-optic network linking Lisbon, Portugal and Badajoz, Spain, reports CBR Online.
Lightwave Online says the high-speed network will support the bandwidth requirements of video streaming and multimedia content distribution, social networking, cloud services, e-commerce, and business services.
According to Alcatel-Lucent in a Total Telecom report, high-speed data networks support converged services such as video streaming and multimedia content distribution.
Oni Communications is increasing capacity on its network in order to meet increasing demand for high-bandwidth services.
“Making the most of our existing fibre-optic networks is extremely important for us today, as it allows us to address exploding traffic growth,” adds Oni Communications board member Il'idio Cardoso.
