Freenet, an E- and infoline initiative, is offering short-term insurance packages over the with the incentive of free Internet access if a is taken out.

Freenet (www.freenet.co.za) is offering various packages, including motor vehicle insurance, household (coupled with risk), caravan and trailer cover. All short-term policies are underwritten by Guardian National. .

Visitors to the site are able to manipulate their excesses however they choose by means of the "Quotemaster" function. Freenet MD Pierre Viviers says all transactions take place in a completely secure environment.

Once accepted, the details of the policy are confirmed telephonically by CIB Insurance, which has partnered Freenet on this venture.

Freenet`s first Internet offering was for endowment policies, which where underwritten by Hollard. Viviers says the Freenet concept is working well, with the endowment product resulting in 60 000 page impressions within the first two weeks of launching.
