Internfit, a new portal for academics, aims to connect companies offering, and students looking for, internships.
The company reports that users will be able to find specific internships in every sector.
According to Internfit, each year, thousands of tertiary students struggle to find valid work experience that will aid career growth. They need to network, read newspapers or trawl many Web sites to find possible internships that fit into their studies, it says.
"Companies can list their internship opportunities for free until the end of July; thereafter there will be a nominal charge for every internship listed," says Nicholas Bernstein, director of Internfit.
The Web site offers unique opportunities to enhance the careers of students, by understanding and creating opportunities in various industries, Benstein adds. "The real problem in today's job market is that, when students graduate, it is very difficult for them to find a job, because most companies need the student to have some experience, which most don't.
"On the other hand, many SMEs don't understand the value of internships, and what impact it can have on growing their workforce by finding young talent," he adds.
Internfit will list and promote opportunities at SMEs and blue-chip companies to its growing database, the company says.
"There is a huge demand in SA's job market to grow the youth workforce, creating opportunities that were never available," Bernstein concludes.
