Continuing Education at University of Pretoria (CE at UP) is proud to present the 2014 Online Programme in IT Project Management. This online course will run over a period of 20 weeks, from 22 February to 12 July 2014, and delegates will have the opportunity to play the role of a project manager by managing an IT project from the comfort of their own homes.
The course runs through the project life cycle and addresses the knowledge areas of PMBOK. At the start of the project, delegates are appointed as project managers by an outsourcing company and are assigned resources to their project teams. The project managers are expected to initiate and plan the projects and get to work with the 'real' stakeholders of the projects. Every week, different events take place in the life of the projects and the project managers need to respond to these events accordingly. These responses are evaluated and delegates are given feedback and model answers. The weekly evaluations are used to grade delegates as the course progresses.
"The course provides the novice/first-time project manager with the opportunity to learn the tricks of the trade without influencing a real project," explains Lizette Weilbach, Senior Lecturer and Course Leader from the Department of Informatics, University of Pretoria. "It simulates a typical IT project in its totality and teaches the potential project manager how to execute the project life cycle. It also throws real-life situations at the project manager, expecting them to react in a meaningful way. Once this course has been completed, the delegate would have some 'experience' of managing a real-life IT project," adds Weilbach.
Since this is an online course, delegates are required to have access to, and knowledge of, the Internet and e-mail. The total course cost is R12 940 (including VAT).
This course is concluded with a project and course review and successful delegates will obtain a certificate from the University of Pretoria.
