Small business portal BizAssist has launched an online management facility in collaboration with the Information Trust Corporation.

BizAssist Web site content and business developer Sally Hetherington says the facility allows subscribing members to conduct a credit check on either a business or a private individual via the portal.

It provides small businesses with a way to avoid bad debtors who can cripple their companies.

BizAssist was launched in September 1999 with the aim of helping small and medium enterprises (SMEs) solve their day-to-day business problems and advise them on running their businesses.

It is headed by Cape Town-based businessmen Warwick Smith-Chandler and Alex Logue.

The portal has also recently added a search engine based on a listing of all companies and institutions offering support to the South African SME market and an events calendar of seminars and shows around the country.

The portal also offers daily news and feature articles, technology tips, virus , domain check facilities and a currency converter.

Other features include a searchable database of more than 70 business and franchise opportunities.
