OnLive games service 'will work'
The founder of online streaming games firm OnLive has defended the technology underpinning the service after accusations it was unworkable, reports BBC News.
Steve Perlman said critics had not even used the system.
OnLive turns games into video data sent across the Internet to a hardware add-on, or software plug-in, which decompresses the data back into video. The firm says a revolutionary video compression algorithm and custom silicon makes it possible.
Syberia 3 unveiled
Micro"ids, the owner of the Syberia franchise, announced the production of a new episode in the adventures of Kate Walker on the PlayStation 3 console and PC, bringing together console manufacturers with the world of the PC through a major collaborative innovation, writes GamesIndustry.biz.
Syberia 3, the new episode in the adventures of Kate Walker, actually allows those playing on PC and those playing on PS3 to collaborate online, thanks to a simultaneous data exchange and sharing mode on the two platforms.
As such, Syberia 3 will see teams of players being formed to optimise their chances of reaching the end of the adventure by pooling the abilities of each of the participants. This innovative gameplay is a first in video gaming, and in particular within the 'point-and-click' adventure segment.
Sony intros mobile game slate
Sony Pictures Television announced a slate of eight new mobile games to be released in 2009 at the CTIA convention in Las Vegas, states FoxBusiness.
The games, based on some of the studio's feature films and television shows, and PSP portable system games, are scheduled to come out from May through December of this year. Other titles, not yet announced, may also join the line-up.
The titles include Angels & Demons, which is set for release on 15 May, launching to coincide with the release of the film adaptation of Dan Brown's novel; Ghostbusters, to be released in June, arcade character Q*Bert, back in July, 007, returning in Top Agent this August, and two new games, Sports Illustrated and Zombieland, which will be released in October.
