Open letter to South African ICT community

Johannesburg, 16 Mar 2015

IITPSA (Institute of Information Technology Professionals South Africa), formerly The Computer Society of South Africa (CSSA), is proud of its long history as a staunch supporter of skills development, ethical behaviour, professional standards and socio-economic transformation in the ICT sector.

As you are all aware, the credibility of our institutions and associations and, therefore, of our members, hinges on our strict adherence to the highest standards and our abhorrence of any behaviour that undermines our collective reputations.

IITPSA is currently the only ICT professional body recognised by the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA). SAQA is the organisation mandated by South African law to recognise professional bodies and register professional designations.

IITPSA is aware of an enterprise attempting to establish bona fides as a professional body, but which is lacking in all of the fundamental requirements for substantiating such a claim. IITPSA therefore strongly recommends that established industry bodies and the community at large exercise extreme caution in any dealings or contact with any unrecognised enterprise claiming to have professional body standing in South Africa.
