A new television show sponsored by the Go Open Source campaign, in association with the Shuttleworth Foundation, HP, the CSIR and Canonical, will go live on SABC tomorrow to promote the use of open source software in SA.

The show will be broadcast at 5.30pm every Saturday on SABC 2, over the next 13 weeks.

"The Go Open Source campaign has invested R5 million in this show and they are not going to make any profit out of it," says Go Open Source programme manager Thomas Black.

"The show aims to attract viewers from the ages of 16 to 45 who are computer end-users, learners or at universities.

"We are hoping to create awareness of open source as an option for connectivity, and want people to know that open source works and it is here to stay," says Black.

"The topics of the show are segmented. They include promoting the use of technology, open source application, searching for the latest gadgets, and technology and use.

"Also featured in the show is what we call 'Gig of the Week' whereby we invite different guests to tell us about interesting technologies they have developed.

"Every week there will be a competition where viewers stand a chance to win MP3 players, cameras and other gadgets provided by HP, as well as clothing sponsored by Soviet."
