Open Text delivers rich fax functions for Microsoft Exchange Server 2010

Johannesburg, 17 Feb 2010

Local Rightfax distributor Galdon Data has announced that Open Text has developed enterprise fax functionality, which seamlessly integrates with Microsoft Exchange 2010.

This development ensures that enterprises can migrate to Exchange Server 2010, preserve their investments in network-based fax capability and unified messaging systems, and provides the ability to access faxing from mobile devices.

Open Text Fax Server is a global provider of fax server, document delivery and fax software. It delivers the most reliable and robust fax software solutions to integrate and automate the flow of a full range of fax, paper and electronic documents and data. Now that RightFax v9.4 supports virtualisation with a board or boardless solution, the ability for enterprises to include their fax environment into their overall IT strategy is a straightforward decision.

Galdon Data director Sebastian Wade says faxing continues to be a critical requirement for many businesses that need signatures, drawings and other paper-based content. “In most industries, faxes are recognised as important legal documents and vital to business operation. With RightFax and Exchange Server 2010, faxing becomes an integral part of the overall enterprise infrastructure, providing a strong ROI and reducing or eliminating the need for physical fax machines.”

An important benefit of the Exchange Connector for Microsoft Exchange 2010 is automated routing of faxes into and out of Exchange Server 2010, using RightFax. When a fax is sent to the enterprise, Exchange server 2010 Unified Messaging forwards it to the RightFax Server, which processes the document so it can be transmitted to and viewed in Microsoft Office Outlook as a native fax message.

Wade says it is then routed to the recipient's Outlook inbox. “The original fax appears as an attachment that the user can select and view. Users can also send e-mail and fax messages to the Fax Server from their Microsoft Outlook for faxing to recipients outside the enterprise.”

A significant advantage of the RightFax Server is that faxes are digitally protected, helping to prevent loss or unauthorised viewing of documents. Logging and auditing features provide the ability to review and track all faxes from sender to recipient.
