OpenText drives mobile strategy
The platform provides a way to create an app from a single source and use it across a number of different mobile platforms including iOS, Android, Symbian and BlackBerry.
Alan Pelz-Sharpe, an analyst with Real Story Group, says this move is significant for OpenText because it gives the company an app-building engine customers can use in conjunction with its Web Experience Management tools from Vignette.
PC World reports that the terms of the deal were not disclosed. OpenText says it plans to deploy WeComm's technology to offer its customers a way to develop device-independent mobile applications, for either internal or public-facing services.
WeComm's software is expected to boost OpenText Everywhere, OpenText's mobile extension for its flagship OpenText enterprise content management suite.
OpenText's CTO, Eugene Roman, says he is “personally championing” the acquisition, states IT World Canada.
He explains the mobile app engine, called 'Wave', is necessary for the company's technology infrastructure in order to push forward its mobile strategy.
