UUNET SA, a subsidiary of MCI, Inc, has been awarded the contract to provide openVOICE with a full business communications solution. The solution includes bandwidth, managed servers, out of band lines for its clients with managed routers, as well as bandwidth hosting and voice termination services in the UK through MCI directly.

As a company that focuses on the design, delivery and implementation of converged telecommunications solutions via open source platforms, openVOICE required a fully-managed telecommunications network to support the organisation`s expansion.

According to openVOICE`s chief technology officer (CTO), Clayton Hayward, UUNET SA provided value-added services together with the required bandwidth and infrastructure, making the company an attractive local business partner.

"UUNET SA`s proven track record in managed services and network integrity ensures we receive the highest levels of support, allowing us to remain focused on driving converged telecommunications solutions that range from PBX and switching to a full voice over Internet Protocol (VOIP) platform."

Elia Tsouros, Business Development Executive at UUNET SA, says: "The managed business solution we have provided to openVOICE gives them the ability to run business applications via the Internet that support the company`s implementation of cost-effective and flexible solutions."

South African businesses demand real-time information, with organisations examining the next step in communication and information. "The demand for IP networks to carry voice packets over one network, without loss of quality, is an important factor of business communication. This means that companies should be examining how networks are managed and solutions are implemented," adds Tsouros.

"Our managed services ensure businesses gain the benefit of a converged infrastructure, without incurring the hidden costs of supervising this environment."

Hayward concludes: "Convergence will not only enhance communication tools, but the new and improved technologies that will be delivered to improve communication will forever change the landscape of the telecommunications sector in SA. Working with a company like UUNET SA ensures we are well positioned for these changes."
