Optimising logistics through customised solutions

By The Innovation Hub
Johannesburg, 14 Jul 2005

The cost-effective and customised integration of business knowledge, engineering, science and technology to deliver value to clients, came under the spotlight at a .Net Development Conference held in the Czech Republic earlier this year.

An innovative systems solutions toolset, developed by locally-based software developer e-Logics, was the topic of a paper presented at the conference in conjunction with the University of Pretoria.

Resident at The Innovation Hub, this innovative company provides clients with customisable, expandable and integrated system solutions. Its product range focuses on expandable software infrastructure supply chain logistics management and assets maintenance and management.

Established in 2000, e-Logics merged part of its services with Volition Consulting Services last year. Managing Director, Johann van der Westhuizen, regards the unique combination of competencies as a major contributing factor to the company's recent successes.

"By combining years of consulting experience with information technology and systems capabilities, we are able to provide our clients with far more comprehensive solutions," he says.

Since the merger with Volition, e-Logics has grown substantially. Its expanded staff complement - now more than 100 employees - has been part of the rationale for moving to The Innovation Hub. According to Van der Westhuizen, the Hub provides an ideal environment from which to operate.

"We were attracted by the first-class infrastructure and the access we would gain to the many networking opportunities at the Hub. It was also clear that the association with The Innovation Hub brand could only benefit the company," he says.

In addition, the Hub's focus on innovation and development was a strong 'pull' factor for the company, which itself is currently involved in three THRIP research and development projects in conjunction with the University of Pretoria. One of the projects is specifically focused on the technological expansion of the Esi product, currently being undertaken in collaboration with Microsoft.

Already the company is working on the next release of software, and looking at defining an international strategy.
