Oracle and Datatec Workgroup have formally announced the termination of their two-year relationship, as Oracle`s focus shifts from commodity products to the delivery of vale-added software components.
Oracle and Datatec Workgroup have been working together in the South African IT channel, with Datatec Workgroup concentrating on high-volume value added software products.
Doug Woolley, sales and marketing director of Datatec Workgroup explained that Oracle`s focus on large enterprise customers, and the delivery of software components for these large and complex enterprise networks, does not fit the 3-tier approach.
"Datatec Workgroup has transformed itself into one of the largest distributors of high-volume value added IT products with a core focus on Internet related technologies," he said.
"As such the synergy that once existed between the companies has diminished to a point where further co-operation is not advantageous for both companies."
With effect from September 1 1998, the classical 3-tier supply channel for Oracle products, will be converted into a 2-tier structure, with Oracle SA providing both product and technical support direct to accredited systems integrators (SI).
"These SI`s will implement and maintain products at large customer organisations, offering marketing and technical support," says Woolley.
"We believe both customers and partners will benefit from this new 2-tier strategy. Customers because they can rely on Oracle resources for day to day operations; and partners because they can focus on general support of large network customers and have direct contact with Oracle South Africa."
