Oracle Corporation has announced Oracle Designer/2000 Release 2.1 and Oracle Developer/2000 Release 2.1, dramatically increasing productivity for the database application developer. The new features of Oracle`s flagship application development environment allow developers, for the first time, to model and automatically generate 100% of their applications. Automatic code generation produces applications of higher quality in less time. Designer/2000 Release 2.1 ensures organisations build the right application. At the highest level, business processes are visually modeled facilitating communication between business people and application developers so that they can agree on requirements. The business processes are then refined into models of the database and application objects. Once these models are complete the application developer simply hits a button, automatically generating all of the application. If any changes need to be made to the application after generation they can be easily reverse engineered back into the model. 100% generation of applications is achieved through new extensions made to the information model inside the Oracle Repository. Now, because applications can be fully described in the new information model, any existing application can automatically be converted into a model. Developers can then benefit from all the Oracle Repository services such as team working, versioning and impact analysis. "Designer/2000 Release 2.1 sets new standards for productivity and completeness in the design and generation of application," said Ian Thacker, senior vice president of Designer/2000 Development at Oracle. "Oracle`s long term investment in repository based modeling technology is delivering benefits today to over 100,000 developers." Designer/2000 Release 2.1 includes an all-new user interface, extensively tested by Oracle`s own usability labs. Intuitive wizards and cue cards guide the novice developer through the steps required to perform common development tasks. The new interface and tight integration with Developer/2000 further blurs the lines between what is RAD and what is modeling. Designer/2000 Release 2.1 demonstrates Oracle`s commitment to open standards, delivering the following: * Information Engineering or Unified Modeling Language (UML)-based object oriented analysis and design * Native support for Oracle7 & 8, Oracle Lite, Oracle RDB, IBM DB/2, Sybase Adaptive Server, Microsoft SQL Server or any other database through ODBC * Automatic generation of Developer/2000 Release 2.1, Dynamic HTML, Visual Basic, or C++ applications "We are extremely excited about the productivity gains offered by Designer/2000 Release 2.1. * The completeness of generation allows us to build applications which meet our business needs faster and react more quickly to changes in our business," said Saragapani Kasturi, director of IS Operations Systems at Sky Chefs. "We are completely committed to Oracle`s repository-based approach to application design and generation." Developer/2000 Release 2.1, also announced today, dramatically reduces administration costs by deploying applications to scaleable, professionally managed application servers where they can be accessed by any PC or NC capable of running a standard Internet browser. The hi-fidelity reporting capabilities of Developer/2000 become even more powerful with the inclusion of more output options and advanced Web publishing capabilities.
