Oracle Corporation has announced the beta version of Oracle Discoverer 3.1, which is part of Oracle`s integrated business intelligence solution for ad hoc query, OLAP, end user and enterprise reporting. This solution offers the most complete range of analysis and reporting capabilities end users need today to access data warehouses and operational systems. Oracle Discoverer is Oracle`s ad hoc query, analysis and reporting tool that lets users drill down to increasingly detailed levels of data to actual database transactions. Recognised for its award-winning usability, Discoverer is designed to remove the complexity of traditional business intelligence tools in order to optimise productivity of end-users and maximise IT resources. Discoverer offers unsurpassed performance and query prediction capabilities, unique in a tool of its kind. In addition to ODBC and MAPI support, batch scheduling, enhanced calculation capabilities and an End-User Layer (EUL) Gateway to open access to any meta data source, Oracle Discoverer 3.1 will feature: Integration with Oracle Reports Oracle Discoverer integrates with Oracle`s recently released reporting solution for the enterprise, Oracle Reports. Oracle Discoverer end users may perform ad hoc queries and publish the results using the dynamic Web publishing capabilities of Oracle Reports. This integration provides customers with the most complete end user and enterprise-reporting environment: from powerful ad hoc queries to sophisticated reports. Integrated Medical Networks (IMN), software company providing healthcare decision and management support to the medical industry, is currently testing the beta version of Discoverer 3.1. "We see two primary benefits of the latest release of Discoverer for our customers: increased ease-of-use and the integration of Discoverer with Oracle Reports," said Steve Kotyk, director of marketing and sales support at IMN. "These improvements give users new freedom because they are empowered with the tools that help them translate data into powerful information as well as a no-hassle, seamless distribution method." Improved Integration with Oracle Express Server Users will be able to perform, seamlessly, any level of analysis with the integration available between Discoverer 3.1 and Express: from ad hoc querying, drilling/pivoting to sophisticated modeling, forecasting and what if scenarios. Users simply press a button to transfer data and associated meta data from the Discoverer Results base cache into the Express cache. Express Analyser or Express Objects can then be used directly against the Express calculation engine, without any re-querying of the data or administrative setup. Oracle Discoverer combines flexible, scaleable data-access technology with an intuitive, easy-to-use graphical interface and Web publishing capabilities. Discoverer 3.0 recently won a competitive usability test conducted by the American Institutes for Research (AIR) in which more than 80 percent of the study participants named Oracle Discoverer the best for usability in its category. It won PC Week`s Analyst Choice Award for its ease-of-use, capabilities and manageability. Discoverer 3.0 is currently available on Windows 95, Windows NT and Windows 3.1. Discoverer 3.1 is planned to be generally available in Spring 1998.
