Oracle has announced a new online developer service initiative from its online developer network, Oracle Technology Network (OTN)
Dubbed OTN Service Network, it is a web-based programme that allows Oracle developers to tap qualified experts for answers on Oracle software products. These include Oracle9i Database, Oracle9i Application Server and Oracle9i Jdeveloper - as well as related technologies such as J2EE, XML, Web services and database programming and design.
To deliver OTN Service Network Oracle has teamed up with ePeople, a provider of Internet-based, collaborative support solutions.
Previously, OTN members looking to optimise and enhance their applications built with Oracle software used bulletin boards and fellow developers as sources for technical solutions.
With this new service, developers can tap into the collective knowledge of more than 600 independent technology experts who have Oracle Certified Professional (OCP) status.
"OCPs have real-world experience building, debugging, and deploying enterprise-quality applications, and therefore have the expertise to help OTN members answer how-to questions, such as how to improve application design, code quality and performance," says Craig Dawson, marketing channel manager at Oracle.
"OTN Service Network signals a new era in how enterprise software companies can more effectively provide new services by using an extended service network."
In a related announcement, Oracle has announced its Portal Developer Centre on OTN. It is a free, online community service for portal developers and partners dedicated to creating and exchanging portal expertise.
Registered users will have access to extensive education resources designed to promote portal development and knowledge, including the latest update of the Oracle9i Application Server (Oracle9iAS) Portal Developer Kit; hosted tools via the Portal Studio; portlets from the Portal Catalogue; a portal newsletter and portal discussion forums and surveys.
