Oracle has come on board as the lead sponsor of this year`s African ICT Achievers Awards, which will be hosted by Forge Ahead BMI-T and the Department of Communications.
Forge Ahead BMI-T says Oracle joins Choice Technologies, the State IT Agency (SITA) and several smaller sponsors as first-time backers of the event. Choice Technologies will co-sponsor the awards, while SITA is to be a partner. Other sponsors include arivia.kom, Sun Microsystems, ITWeb and Kaya FM.
BMI-T spokesman Jane Mosebi says the sponsorships will enable the organisers to make bigger prizes available, among them a PC and a bursary.
The awards will be presented at a banquet in Johannesburg in October. Judging has already started and the finalists in all categories will be named within the next few weeks.
Mosebi says this year`s event attracted about 500 nominations, a significant increase over previous years. "Judging is difficult, as we have very good candidates from various levels."
