
The international world of ICT was dominated last week by Oracle's buyout of BEA Systems for a sum significantly in excess of its original offer made in Q4 last year. The local ICT scene was exceptionally quiet, with only a handful of announcements.

* SecureData Holdings bought UK-based MIS Corporation Defence Solutions, an information security solutions provider, for £14.2 million.
* DVT purchased Offline Digital, a provider of software for publishing personalised content over a range of channels, for R1.4 million (66.7%).
* Connection Telecom and Digital Connect merged, and will trade under the name of the former.
* President Thabo Mbeki announced his approval of the Electronic Communications Amendment Act and the Infraco Act.
* Kim Jenkins was appointed country manager for Experian.

Final word
Although there have only been a handful of Q407 results released, the indications from these are not too good, although as always, there are exceptions. The next two weeks could be informative and interesting as the bulk of the results for this period are released.
