Leading the movement to deliver business applications online, Oracle Corp, the largest provider of software for e-business, has announced a significant broadening of its Application Service Provider (ASP) strategy.
In effect, Oracle is opening its Partner Programme to include third party ASP`s who want to host Oracle applications.
"The Oracle iHost initiative has been expanded to include value-added service partners who will provide an array of hosting services for their customers based on the Oracle E-Business Suite," explains Oracle product manager Deon Els.
Els says new iHost partners, called Oracle Authorised Applications Providers, can develop and sell value-added services that complement and extend the use of the Oracle E-Business Suite.
"These partners will provide integration with legacy and custom developed systems or expertise in business processes or vertical industries such as local governments and higher education," he says.
The Oracle Authorised Applications Provider partners will follow implementation guidelines developed by Oracle and will develop their own product offerings around the E-Business Suite.
"Our expanded iHost initiative gives us another distribution outlet that provides value-added services for our E-Business Suite of applications in hosted environments," continues Els.
"What`s more, this initiative creates an opportunity for our partners, who can leverage what we`ve learned as the leading provider of online business services over the last eighteen months."
First introduced last year, the Oracle iHost initiative was designed to provide Internet service providers (ISPs) and hosting service providers (HSPs) the opportunity to seize business opportunities in applications hosting by allowing them to purchase and host Oracle database technology that delivers the scalability, reliability and security that customers demand in a mission-critical applications hosting environment.
Specifically, iHost partners can license the Oracle Internet Platform which includes all the necessary software products for hosting Internet applications. The Oracle Internet Platform includes Oracle8i Enterprise Edition, Oracle Internet Application Server 8i, Oracle Internet Directory, Oracle Advanced Security, Oracle Enterprise Manager and other performance enhancing features such as Oracle Parallel Server.
