In a move to assist its South African customers to optimise Web technology in product design, development and manufacturing, Oracle SA has announced that its new collaborative product development solution, Oracle Product Development Exchange (OPDX), is available to local companies.
OPDX is a key component of Oracle`s Exchange Suite of products and provides an Internet hub where global, multi-company project teams can securely share product information, project schedules and performance metrics in real time.
"According to the Forrester analyst group, only 12% of companies on a global scale are using the Web to streamline their product development processes," says Oracle marketing director, Marc Gower.
"With OPDX, we are encouraging South African companies to collaborate and partner with global enterprises to dramatically increase product innovation, improve project management and streamline product development processes.
"OPDX provides a collaboration hub where global project teams can develop better products - faster and cheaper than the competition, accelerate time-to-market and significantly reduce product development costs. "Moreover OPDX allows users to create better, more competitive products while providing executive visibility with the preservation of intellectual capital." He says that Oracle has recognised that multi-company development partners will be using CAD, ERP, and PDM systems and has designed OPDX to be the common denominator among them.
"For the first time, disparate project team members can truly be on the same page in terms of the management of all the product, project, people and document information required to usher a product from cradle to grave.
"It delivers product information management, project collaboration, document management and product development intelligence," he notes.
Gower adds that OPDX is being used by Oracle in its product development: "Once again Oracle is `walking the talk` and is using its own products to great effect. By using OPDX to develop OPDX we`ve been able to identify problems early with an immediate return on investment."
