This comes in the wake of an agreement between the parties to make Oracle training available throughout the Middle East, West Asia and India. In the initial phase of the African roll-out, Oracle training will be offered through NIIT training centres in South Africa, Botswana, Tanzania, Kenya, Nigeria and Ghana and Mauritius.
As part of the education partnership, training will be provided on the Oracle 8i platform and tuition will be delivered in a format that makes the program easily accessible to all levels of trainees, from novice to expert. Thus, no IT background is necessary for prospective trainees. The partnership intends to significantly increase the number of Oracle certified professionals in Africa.
To further reduce barriers to entry, NIIT will invest in excess of 11 million rands into an Oracle bursary fund for South Africa and Botswana
The training will be provided in South Africa nationally at 8 state-of-the-art NIIT training centres operated by NIIT`s empowerment partners, Kwetliso. The top 800 candidates, selected nationally, will qualify for Oracle training bursaries.
According to Pieter Bensch, Oracle SA Education Director: "Due to the wide acceptance of Oracle technologies, there is a tremendous demand for education on Oracle products today. NIIT, with its reach and its capability to provide learning solutions is extremely well positioned to deliver quality education on Oracle products across Africa, especially in the new technologies area."
Saket Sarda, NIIT Territory Head-Southern Africa: "Oracle and NIIT have forged this partnership to cater for the growing demand for Oracle technology skills. By leveraging the expertise of both partners in creating new technologies, this partnership aims to enhance the standards of IT Education in Africa. NIIT is committing its resources and funds to emerge as the premier provider of training on Oracle technologies."
NIIT will offer 240 hours of training on each Oracle Certified Professional track. NIIT`s experienced trainers are certified by Oracle. Joint participation certificates will be provided to qualifying candidates by Oracle and NIIT. NIIT training centres will also offer testing and certification facilities to learners that successfully complete their courses. Using these facilities, learners will have the opportunity to qualify as Oracle Certified Professionals.
Cassim Boorany, Kwetliso Training Services MD: "Our launch of the NIIT Bursary Scheme is an unique opportunity for South Africans to acquire the tools for working at the cutting edge of technology. The partnership between Kwetliso, NIIT and Oracle represents real empowerment. It goes beyond a mere financial transaction. Our bursary scheme combined with the educational model we employ ensures that anyone looking to develop an in-depth and usable knowledge of Oracle and its related technologies will now have an opportunity to do so."
NIIT, a pioneer in advanced E-technology training, will also be launching its E-technologies curriculum for Africa within months. This curriculum introduces MCLA (Model Centred Learning Architecture) training methodology which provides the learner with "Outcome/Skills Based" training. Professional certifications from this curriculum include: e-Web Designer, e-Developer, e-Systems Engineer, e-Database Administrator, e-Application Developer and e-Commerce Expert.
