Oracle OpenWorld 2007 opened yesterday, in San Francisco.

Expecting 41 000 people from around the world, Oracle says the event aims to provide business leaders with information they need to drive innovation throughout their own organisations.

Delegates can choose from over 1 600 sessions and 450 exhibitors that, according to the company, showcase the customers and whose work with Oracle has translated into better business results.

The sessions are split into technology, applications and industry-specific sessions. Oracle says attendees can learn how Oracle uses development technologies to innovate across its product lines.

This year`s OpenWorld also features a new event: "Inside Innovation", sponsored by Intel, that the company says showcases how the innovations of "today and tomorrow are changing the way people live, work and play".

During a keynote address on Sunday night, Oracle CEO Larry Ellison said Oracle`s is a simple one: "We are building and acquiring a wide range of technology and applications and integrating them with modern, standards-based middleware. We are simplifying customer environments by providing integration out of the box, yet are keeping all our products extensible and open."

He added that Oracle will continue to expand the range of capabilities it offers customers, and optimise these products around a single technology stack to improve , manageability, performance, data quality and compliance.

"During OpenWorld, attendees will learn more about how Oracle will be executing this strategy," he concluded.
