Oracle pushes into CM
Oracle plans to release six products over the next 12 months, that reflect a major push in the content-management market, reports Intelligent Enterprise.
Most of the products come out of last year's $440 million acquisition of Stellent. Oracle has adopted the company's universal content management software as the flagship of its new portfolio.
Each product is scheduled for release separately, along with pricing. The software can run on top of Oracle's database, or those of third parties.
CM expanded on Wisconsin campuses
The University of Wisconsin has expanded its licensing agreement with Xythos, developer of content management software, to include seven campuses, reports Campus Technology.
The decision was made after initial installation on the university's Madison and Milwaukee campuses. "Our campus prides itself on a very proactive approach to addressing the needs of our diverse communities," said Ron Kraemer, deputy CIO at the University of Wisconsin-Madison in a prepared statement.
The University of Wisconsin system has more than 16 000 students currently enrolled, and 26 four-year universities and freshman/sophomore colleges.
ECM vendors take on medium business
Enterprise content management (ECM) software vendors are targeting mid-size businesses, reports InfoWorld.
While many large enterprises already have solutions provided by EMC, IBM, or FileNet, some mid-size companies have steered away from ECM software as being too expensive and complicated to use. However, mid-size customers have an increasing need to manage content.
IBM is considering how best to serve the content needs of mid-size companies, says Steve Mills, senior VP of the vendor's software group. "We're already reaching into the middle and have some 'skinnyed-down' products," he says.
