Oracle Corp. the largest provider of software for e-business, has shipped the second release of Oracle9i Application Server (Oracle9iAS) Wireless Edition, the only complete middleware for developing and deploying wireless applications. Oracle9iAS Wireless Edition offers customers new personalisation, location, short messaging and content management features that together form a powerful infrastructure for delivering any type of content and application service to any device.
Many leading industry analysts agree that personalisation and location-based services are key components for delivering the next generation of successful mobile applications. With Oracle9iAS Wireless Edition, customers can quickly create and manage their own personalized, custom-branded wireless applications; or they can choose to have Oracle build and host their application via Oracle`s mobile products and services division, OracleMobile?
"Personalisation and location have emerged as critical buying factors for companies looking for wireless solutions," said Francois Marais, Product Manager Oracle application server. "With the new personalisation and location features of Oracle9iAS Wireless Edition, Oracle has moved itself into a prime market position."
Next Generation Wireless Features
Key new features of Oracle9iAS Wireless Edition include:
Personalisation
Alert Management: Create new alerts and set customised parameters for device-specific alerts. Landmarks: Create and edit frequently accessed landmarks (such as home or office) as reference points so devices can deliver content based on a user`s current location.
Content Management
Wireless Portal Creation and Management: Create branded wireless portals that can be completely customized and personalized with bookmarking capabilities for easy access.
Messaging
Messaging Engine: Push alerts and notifications to mobile devices via Email, SMS and WAP, using advanced queuing found in Oracle9iAS Wireless Edition and the Oracle database.
Location-Based Services
Geocoding: Track the location of mobile devices using new wireless geocoding capabilities based on Oracle`s Spatial technology to produce coordinates for street addresses, routing for mapping and directions, and distance relationships between business and customer for "Yellow Page" applications.
"Oracle9iAS Wireless Edition places Oracle in the unique position of providing a simple and complete platform for developing and deploying personalised wireless Internet content, applications and services, so customers can truly conduct business on the go," said Marais. "Because our offering is based on open Internet standards and superior technology, Oracle makes it easier for customers to make the leap from Web to wireless."
