Oracle takes EMEA businesses into new trading era

Johannesburg, 27 Oct 2000

Oracle Corporation has announced a major endorsement in Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) for its leading B2B exchange platform and technology.

During the past seven months, leading EMEA companies covering the , automotive, aerospace, marine, telecommunication, construction and financial industries, plus country-specific organisations, have created online business trading exchanges. They have deployed Oracle technology to support collaborative environments where organisations come together and conduct business over the .

"Online trading exchanges are the future of all trading," says Marc Gower, marketing director of Oracle SA. "CEOs throughout this region realise that the true model for competitive survival and success is the e-business model, and that they must move their organisations at Internet speed into this new chapter of trading.

"The business case for the exchange trading model is overwhelming. Powerful online exchanges allow businesses to leverage real economic gain from the Internet and the new economy."

Gower relates that major industries have discovered that they can use the Internet for real economic gain in the age of e-business. "Oracle provides the technology, and services to fully power these exchanges, and to make industry-wide B2B marketplaces a reality."

He points out that Oracle`s exchange platform allows leading customers such as Miraculum in South Africa, and Metals-Russia.com to move quickly into the new arena of online B2B commerce.

"Miraculum has launched a new business-to-business marketplace for the local market, focused on maintenance, repairs and operations purchasing, enabling subscribers to maximise supplier leverage and minimise order-processing costs," says Gower. "The service will not only provide online auctioning, reverse auctioning, contract and spot buying facilities, but will also facilitate collaborative supply chain planning and product design functionality, allowing accurate capacity and demand planning for participating suppliers and buyers. "

According to Brandon Spear, MD of Miraculum SA, a major differentiator is that the company`s e-procurement marketplace is a combined exercise between procurement and technology specialists. "We incorporate expertise in the delivery of complex technology based solutions, coupled with an understanding of the complexities of negotiating and managing procurement contracts and supplier-customer relationships. Combining these skills with the critical mass of our initial anchor tenants is a recipe for success," Spears adds.

Gower says that Oracle`s ability to implement in record time enables customers to be first to market, achieving leadership in their sector and gaining a quick return on investment.

He adds that other companies who are transforming their trading model to an online B2B environment using Oracle technology, include: Austrian Airlines on Aeroxchange (Austria), 3bTrade.com (Belgium), Carrefour on GlobalNetXchange (France), Daimler Chrysler on Covisint (Germany), Ford Europe on Covisint, KPN (Netherlands), KLM Royal Dutch Airlines on Aeroxchange (Netherlands), Metal-Russia.com (Russian Federation) and Scandinavian Airlines Systems - SAS on Aeroxchange (Sweden).
