Oracle talks up 'full stack' virtualisation

Oracle has begun a push for its integrated virtualisation platforms, and in the process blasted one of its biggest competitors, reports V3.co.uk.

The company said in a Webcast presentation that its 'full stack' virtualisation approach could provide better value and performance over competing offerings such as VMware.

Chief corporate architect Edward Screven said the company's approach involves placing virtualisation systems in nearly every level of the IT infrastructure, from application-level to storage-level.

Citrix, VMware make peace

Citrix has made amends with VMware and will double its presence at next month's VMworld conference, one year after a controversy involving VMware, Citrix and Microsoft, writes dabcc.com.

Citrix and its virtualisation Microsoft slammed rival VMware last year after rules changes led to the companies pulling out as sponsors of VMworld.

Despite being hosted by VMware, rather than a neutral party, VMworld has become one of the most important conferences in the virtualisation industry, where start-ups and established players alike showcase their latest technology.

Met to improve information handling

The Metropolitan Police Service has outlined a number of IT plans aimed at improving its information processes, says The Register.

Its directorate of information's strategic plan for 2010/11 says technology will play a big part in delivering secure and reliable information "where and when it is needed". This includes the development of e.Met-search, which will be the first step towards a single point of access to policing information.

"Better quality information will mean better, faster decision-making, bringing more offenders to justice, reducing to officers and saving the organisation both time and money, which can then be reinvested," says the document, published in July.
