Oracle teams with LumenData to develop master data management products for higher education institutions

Co-development agreement expected to deliver solutions that streamline integration and maximise IT agility.

Johannesburg, 26 Mar 2009

Oracle and LumenData, a product development and services firm focused on enterprise data management, today announced an agreement to co-develop Oracle master data management (MDM) products tailored for higher education institutions.

The planned solutions should enable higher education institutions to create complete, accurate, and single views of their constituents, which include applicants, students, employees, alumni, teachers and workers. These records will feed the numerous systems on campus with trusted constituent data.

These products will help address unique business challenges faced by higher education institutions, such as improving recruitment, fundraising and retention. They will also help institutions manage campus safety risks, lower IT costs and improve overall business operations.

Oracle MDM products, tailored for higher education with LumenData, will accelerate the ability for institutions to realise the benefits of a powerful MDM solution accompanied by a robust, services-based integration platform.

Oracle provides technology and application solutions that help higher education institutions meet and adapt to the changing needs and demands of students, teachers, parents, faculty, staff, graduates and alumni, governance bodies, and their extended community of supporters and stakeholders.

Over 1 000 universities worldwide have implemented Oracle's PeopleSoft Campus Solutions, a comprehensive suite of software specifically designed for the changing needs of higher education institutions.

Products resulting from this agreement will be tailored to meet the specific needs and challenges faced by higher education institutions, which include streamlining implementations, reducing data errors, improving decision-making and significantly reducing costs by eliminating the need for customers to build their own customised solutions.

“By shipping vertically targeted hubs that are pre-integrated with applications, 'MDM Aware', Oracle delivers a unique combination of assets enabling the fastest MDM deployment capabilities in the marketplace,” said Pascal Laik, vice-president of MDM, Oracle. “To manage the ever-changing needs of a broad range of constituents, higher education institutions need to be able to seamlessly integrate applications and data to maximise existing IT investments and drive value for their end-users. Our agreement with LumenData is focused on meeting these challenges and demonstrates our commitment to higher education.”

“Oracle has an incredibly strong presence in the education community, with unrivalled industry-specific solutions and ongoing support for numerous education initiatives worldwide,” said Nimish Mehta, CEO of LumenData. “That presence, coupled with LumenData's unrivalled experience with low cost and rapid MDM implementations, make this the perfect partnership for Master Data Management. We are delighted to be working with Oracle to support the ever-changing business and IT needs of higher education institutions in particular.”
