Oracle Corporation`s Applications Solution Centre (ASC) has chosen Eurologic Systems` SANbloc network storage system as part of its global lab-based programme for performance tuning and proof-of-concept testing in applications environments.
Eurologic is a worldwide provider of network storage solutions for storage area networking (SAN), original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) solutions and vertical market applications, and is represented in South Africa by Drive Control Corporation.
Oracle`s ASC is part of a global lab-based program for Oracle`s Independent Software Vendor (ISV) partners. The lab, based in Dublin, Ireland, focuses on helping ISVs based in Europe, the Middle East and Africa build and test technology-based solutions designed to solve business problems. Eurologic was named the network storage solution provider for the centre in October of 1999 and has been providing its Voyager series of storage systems as part of the centre`s test bed.
Raul Del Fabbro, manager of DCC`s Storage Solutions division, says SANbloc will be the third generation of Eurologic`s network storage technology to reside at the Oracle ASC.
"SANbloc, the industry`s first 2 gigabit-per-second fibre channel-ready network storage system, is based on a modular, flexible architecture that enables ultra-high storage performance with very high density," he explains. "Each enclosure supports up to 14 low-profile disk drives, enabling up to 1TB of data - using 73GB disk drives - within a 3U form factor, or roughly the size of a briefcase. Up to eight enclosures can be dynamically added to provide up to 8TB of data in less than five square feet, giving users the ability to `pay as they grow`."
Eurologic is working closely with Oracle to configure SANs tuned to Oracle ISV partners` applications. Eurologic`s SANbloc is the ideal next step due to its high-performance, scalable, fault-tolerant architecture.
"Storage is a critical element of most application solutions, including Oracle database applications," Del Fabbro continues. "The SANbloc Series has demonstrated outstanding performance in database application environments like Oracle`s. Also, Eurologic`s long-standing focus on ensuring interoperability makes it easy for Oracle to work with its own partners in configuring solutions optimised to address their unique challenges."
