Orange Business Services (OBS) yesterday launched access from mobile devices to its -based Open Videopresence with the Orange Video Meeting application.

Available for both Android and Apple devices, the Orange Video Meeting app, powered by Avaya-owned Scopia Mobile technology, enables attendees to actively participate in video conferencing sessions, with video conference rooms and desktops on any .

Orange says the app - currently available in 107 countries, including SA - can be downloaded for free from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store. "After downloading the app, participants can join a video conferencing session by clicking an e-mail link or through a mobile device calendar invitation. The smart URL will detect the device the participant is using and open the appropriate application to join the conference."

Centred in Sandton, OBS has had a presence in SA since its 2006 launch, and has been flagged as a rock upon which Orange will build and leverage to grow the Orange consumer brand in the country.

Equal access

Eric Monchy, VP of video conferencing at OBS, says enabling video access regardless of device or location is key to developing video usage. "Making access equally easy for employees, customers and partners, regardless of device or location, makes video conferencing a go-to collaboration tool and not one that is reserved for special meetings."

Orange Video Meeting enables users to participate through their personal or professional mobile device as they would at their desktops, says OBS.

"Scopia Mobile is the industry's first standards-based mobile video application to enable HD video conferencing." The technology that is embedded in the app, says OBS, allows participants to collaborate with audio, HD video and sharing.

Boaz Raviv, VP and global head of the Avaya video portfolio, says Orange is enabling customers in an "era of BYOD".

Details of how the Orange Video Meeting app works are provided in this video.
