Orca Technologies, a company in the Computer Configurations Holdings Group, has appointed SCSI Technology as SA distributor of the Orca range of high availability external data storage solutions to the value added reseller channel.
The relationship will commence with immediate effect, and will apply to distribution of the product throughout southern Africa. Orca Technologies will retain control of its export initiative, and has already secured a grant from the IDC for Industrial Innovation (SPII) for the international original equipment manufacturer (OEM) market. The company has also secured RAB certification from the RAID Advisory Board, the international standards committee for data storage systems.
"SCSI is a distributor that Orca will look to, to add value to the product locally," said Orca Technologies managing director Bill de Beer. "They have the technical skills to support the product and a very attractive reseller base."
The Orca range has distinct design and pricing advantages which make it a competitive offering, says SCSI managing director Jessy Naicker. "The Orca system is world class in terms of performance, capacity and technical excellence, and the fact that it is locally manufactured makes it highly competitive in terms of pricing.
"Orca Technologies chose us because we already have an established relationship in which we supply controllers and disk drives for the Orca range," Naicker continued. "We also have 650 resellers, making it the largest reseller base in South Africa." SCSI Technology claims to hold 25% of the South African external data storage market in the sub-terabyte sector.
The Orca systems` high availability features include up to 24 hot-swap drives, fans, controllers and power supplies, and modular backplanes. "These technologies, coupled with the more competitive pricing against imported systems, make Orca unrivalled in price/performance," said De Beer.
SCSI Technology will launch the Orca range to its reseller channel at functions on 23 and 25 June 1998.
