Order from chaos: Wyse Rapport software now manages handheld devices

Innovative software now manages Palm OS and Pocket PC devices quickly and easily using the same cutting-edge technology that controls thin clients around the world
Johannesburg, 12 Nov 2003

Wyse Technology, locally distributed by IT WISE, has announced that

Wyse Rapport

is the first management tool to support thin clients and handheld devices with the Palm OS or Pocket PC operating systems.

Wyse Rapport device management software centrally controls a world of intelligent devices, local and remote, wired and mobile, desktop as well as handheld devices. It simplifies IT management, reduces TCO and improves ROI.

It is a single software platform that manages a full range of devices - from desktop and tablet thin clients to Palm and Pocket PC handheld devices, including PDAs, scanners and other mobile devices. From one console, you can use Wyse Rapport to control, upgrade, protect and repurpose more than a million clients.

Wyse Rapport optimises network bandwidth, discovers new devices, performs scheduled updates, and delivers customised client reports-all using a mere 80K footprint agent on the managed device.

There are two versions of Wyse Rapport. The Workgroup edition comes bundled with all Wyse Winterm thin clients and provides comprehensive management control for smaller installations. The powerful Enterprise edition delivers increased device management capabilities and scales up to millions of clients. Both versions leverage a distributed architecture and are simple to install. Wyse Rapport has very powerful and easy-to-use scheduling and device grouping. The result is that valuable IT staff resources are free to focus on other important tasks and employees can work at peak productivity.

"With this new feature added to our industry-leading Wyse Rapport software product, we now give enterprises a better tool to manage what is quickly becoming a standard piece of equipment for all employees, the enterprise digital assistant, or EDA," said Arno`t van Heerden, Sales Director at IT WISE. "Through its support for PDA and handheld scanner devices like those offered by Intermec, Wyse Rapport is now the only single-platform software solution that easily and centrally manages thin clients and enterprise handheld devices for reduced TCO and rapid ROI."

Wyse delivers significant strategic market benefits with specific advantages that include:

* Digital certificate authentication - This provides far greater security by allowing only the selected device to receive the information.

* Network device discovery - By using this feature, the software can automatically get information on device location, configuration and hardware and software assets.

* Wireless and wired support - With more and more EDAs using WiFi wireless networking, it is more important than ever to be able to manage devices that attach to the network by multiple methods.

Pocket PC and Palm OS licences for Wyse Rapport are available immediately from Wyse Technology.
