Organisations embrace work shifting
Express Computer Online writes.
Ninety-one percent of organisations are planning to implement desktop virtualisation, considered to be an enabling technology for work shifting, by end 2013. Of those implementing desktop virtualisation, 57% indicated they were implementing or would implement it to enable work shifting.
The Economic Times says India is among the top countries globally to allow people to use their personal devices at the workplace.
"Thirty-eight percent of Indian respondents are using personal devices at workplaces as against global average of 34.2%," the survey said.
Survey respondents confirmed that organisations are recognising the benefits of mobile workstyles and work shifting, including improved business productivity and agility for the organisation and greater freedom, mobility and flexibility for users, Business Standard notes.
Organisations are recognising that giving people the ability to work from anywhere can benefit both parties. The business reaps the rewards of a highly mobile and agile business with increased productivity and lower costs while people have the flexibility to choose the ideal time, place and device for their work.
According to IT decision-makers, the benefits of work shifting include giving people the flexibility to choose the ideal time, place and device for their work; providing people with uninterrupted access to desktops and apps during business disruptions of any kind; reducing real-estate, travel and labour costs through flex-work, telework and alternative workplace strategies; and attracting and retaining the best people through flex-work, telework and alternative workplace strategies.
