Orion Telecom has started trading under its parent company brand, and is now known as Vox Orion.
AltX-listed Vox Telecom bought out Orion Telecom in 2007, for R380 million, although Orion has since kept its own branding and has been working as a division of its parent company. At the time, Vox was still trading as DataPro, now also a business unit within the telco.
Vox Orion MD Jacques du Toit says the company has been considering a name change since 2007. “As part of a larger entity and a holding company, we felt it essential the Vox corporate identity be incorporated into our brand, as well as all the other companies within the group, such as Vox Orion, Vox DataPro and Vox AmVia,” he notes.
Despite trying times for Vox Telecom after an exchange traded fund debacle through now defunct Dealstream, Orion has been a strong division. At its interim results last year, reported just a few months after the Orion acquisition, it represented 49% of the company's profits.
Under the Orion insignia, Vox also purchased Storm Telecoms, which boosted the division's performance over the year. Vox is expected to release its interim results for this year in the next few months.
Alongside the name change, Vox Orion will start visibly rebranding itself. “We are in the process of rolling out the new corporate image and customers can look forward to a fresh and bold new look, which reflects the synergy between the group companies,” says Du Toit.
However, he emphasises there will be no impact on customers. “We would like to say that from an operational point of view, it's business as usual and customers can be assured of our ongoing commitment to them - with a new look and renewed energy.”
