In a deal worth over R1 million, First Technology subsidiary, CHM-Vuwani and leading hotel management software developer, Micros Fidelio, have implemented two new IT systems at the Orion group.

Pretoria-based CHM Vuwani is strategically aligned with leading national value-added IT , First Technology.

The new systems are fully operational in the popular Orion Mont-Aux-Sources hotel in the Drakensberg, and the Orion Safari Lodge in Rustenberg, creating a streamlined and integrated hotel management system.

"We installed two high-speed LANs connecting 23 Mecer workstations and two state-of-the-art servers with optic cabling. These provide a high-tech solution to support the management software," says Byron Brooker, account manager CHM-Vuwani.

Susan Gilliatt, director of Micros Fidelio explains: "The applications are configured to Orion`s specifications making it easy to use and obtain fast, accurate up-to-date information which is now standardised throughout the group.

"The seamless integration of Front Office, Food & Beverage, and Sales and Catering allows critical information to flow efficiently between these departments."

Stephan Kwint, operations manager at Orion says the decision to implement a new system stemmed from the cost savings and improved service to guests.

"With a new hardware backbone in place, we`re now working on a reservation system on the which will integrate with the current systems.

"The entire roll-out, including the training of staff in both hotels, was completed in two months. We plan to implement similar systems in a further 20 to 25 hotels over the next five years," Kwint concludes.
