One Technology Group (OTG) is making the Asus P3B-F Smart Motherboard available to the local market, a device that reduces the overall cost of owning a PC.
Various features, such as Wake on LAN, Wake on Ring support and health monitoring, help to reduce maintenance and support issues, thereby reducing the total cost of ownership (TCO).
But it is not only a TCO reduction that the new board brings to the table. "Based on the Intel 440BX AGPset with ATX form factor the board supports Pentium III, Pentium II and high-end Celeron processors," says Richard Watters, Asus product manager at OTG.
The Slot 1 mainboard also comes with a JumperFree BIOS for ease of setting and over-clocking of the CPU and Suspend-to-RAM for maximum power savings. It carries a 100MHz Front Side Bus (FSB) with L2 cache and PC100SDRAM performance.
"Various types of SRAM can be used for the level-2 cache. Asynchronous SRAM, standard burst SRAM, and pipelined burst SRAM are three types. In the Pentium-class machines, the pipelined burst SRAM offers the best price/performance ratio," says Watters.
Equipped with four DIMM sockets to support Intel PC100-compliant SDRAMs (8,16,32,64,128, or 256MB) up to 1024MB. Watters adds: "These new SDRAMs are necessary to meet the critical enhanced 100MHz bus speed requirement." PC Health Monitoring provides an easier way to examine and manage system status information such as CPU and system voltages, temperatures, and fan status, through the onboard hardware ASIC and the bundled LDCM from Intel or PC Probe from Asus.
"The board also supports Wake-On-LAN activity through an optional ASUS PCI-L101 10/100 Fast Ethernet PCI card or similar Ethernet card," says Watters.
The Wake-On-LAN feature provides the capability to remotely power-on client systems supporting this feature by simply sending a Wake-On-LAN packet and then uploading or downloading files to or from the client. "With this feature, administrators can perform client maintenance during off-hours so that TCO will be dramatically lowered. Wake-On-LAN is a remote management tool with advantages that can reduce system management workload, provide flexibility to the system administrator`s job, and then of course save you time-consuming efforts and costs," concludes Watters.
