One Technology Group (OTG), the Own Brand company in the Siltek IT Supply Chain Group, has announced the new AMD 850MHz Athlon processor. The processor is aimed at clients and customers using applications such as 3D modelling, image compression, CAD/CAM and voice recognition. It is also ideal for users requiring theatre quality images and audio as well as power browsing capabilities for surfing the Net.
"Processor speeds have risen dramatically over the past six months and we expect them to continue," says Jason Band, product manager at OTG. "This is because the processor industry is locked in a heated battle at the moment, with the two giants, notably AMD and Intel, fighting for the lions share of the market."
The AMD Athlon processor is an x86-compatible, seventh-generation design featuring a superpipelined, nine-issue superscalar microarchitecture optimised for high clock frequency.
One of the major advantages of the AMD processor is that it uses 128KB level 1 cache, which performs better than level 2 cache. "The 850MHz Athlon uses enhanced 3DNow! technology with 24 additional instructions designed to improve integer math calculations, data movement for Internet streaming, and DSP communications," says Band.
"Coupled with the 200MHz system bus based on the Alpha EV6 protocol with support for multiprocessing, which improves the scalability of the machine, the processor can meet a wide range of applications, from the consumer = to the corporate market," he concludes.
