The Black Information Technology Forum would like to express its condolences for the tragic passing of Ivy Matsepe-Casaburri last week.
Matsepe-Casaburri had many accolades, among those were first woman premier of the Free State (1997-1999), after which she became Member of Parliament.
Before her admission to Parliament, she sat on many boards; among those were CSIR as the first woman to sit on that board and the first Black woman to sit on the board of Sentech and the first Black woman to chair the SABC board (1993-1997).
She had also served as acting President of South Africa shortly before President Kgalema Montlante's inauguration.
Matsepe-Casaburri transcended all expectations of how ICT could be utilised as a tool in most parts of disadvantaged areas in order to improve service delivery.
She has made immense contributions to the information and communication field, owing to her insightful intellect an unshaken leadership qualities. A shining example of selfless leadership, honour and dignity, she will be missed by all those who had been fortunate enough to be graced by her elegance and eloquence. The country mourns the loss of a dedicated communications minister but the nation weeps for the loss of a strong Black icon.
