SA Internet-based telecoms service Skaap is offering free calls to a number of overseas destinations to its subscriber base until 2 January 2007.
Existing and new Skaap subscribers will be able to call UK, Australia, Canada, New Zealand and US landlines from their contract cellphones free, using their free minute allocation.
Skaap, which offers the service legally through parent company Vipafone's VANS licence, has offered free PC to PC calls for some time, but the new offering "heralds a new age in the South African telecommunications industry", according to MD Brett Macgrath.
"This is the first time such an offering has been made available to the South African public and one that we are planning to run several times over the next year," said Macgrath.
"Simply by registering with Skaap, through our Web site and purchasing R50 call credit, users will be able to speak free to the most popular destinations via their contract cellphones, using free minutes allocated by their cellphone network provider."
Skaap's services include Skaap Dial-In for landline or cellphone calls, and the Skaap PowerPack which is an integrated solution which offers a bundled service at reduced rates. Power Pack offers free minutes as well as the ability to make calls using a number of devices: PC phone, cellphone and landline.
"We are fully committed to continual improvements driven by customer feedback and this promotion and our new Web site is a reflection of this. We believe that Skaap offers a real alternative to other providers and truly believe that by moulding our solution to customer requirements and offering a quality service at an affordable price, we are going to continue to see growth in our subscription base," concludes Macgrath.
