Owners welcome PS3 update

Starting tomorrow, PS3 owners will be able to remotely start their PS3 using an -enabled PSP and access real-time PlayStation news in a scrolling window, via the newly announced Information Board, reports PC World.

Other new features include the addition of custom themes to personalise the Cross Media Bar, and the ability to create music and photo play-lists.

Additionally, a dedicated PlayStation Network category has been added that, according to Sony, reflects the company`s focus on current offerings such as the PlayStation Store and new online initiatives planned for the future.

AMD unveils chip

Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) has turned to graphic chip technology to boost the power of its latest high-end processor, the FireStream 9170 Stream Processor, says Technews World.

The hybrid chip taps into the "massive parallel processing power" found in graphics processing units and leverages it to meet the needs of the demanding high-performance computing market, AMD said.

The FireStream 9170 is aimed at companies that regularly perform complex computations, such as those in the scientific and oil and gas industries.

`Guitar Hero III` still rocks

The good and bad news for Guitar Hero fans is that in the latest game in the franchise, RedOctane didn`t mess much with the formula that placed its predecessors among the hottest game sensations of our time, says USA Today.

Users looking for a fresh new experience in this sequel might be disappointed. But, if they can look past that, they will find Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock a fun, challenging and (despite some potentially offensive language) great way for the whole family to rock out in front of the television.

Better than strumming a tennis racket in front of the mirror, Guitar Hero games include a guitar-shaped controller that plugs into the video game console.

Shop for iTunes at Starbucks

Apple and Starbucks on Wednesday introduced the iTunes Music Store at about 360 Starbucks coffee shops in the Bay Area, reports SF Gate.

The new service lets customers shop for music wirelessly through iTunes, at Starbucks, for free. Rolling out across the nation, the Bay Area launch included stores from Santa Rosa to Gilroy. "You`d be hard pressed to find a store that doesn`t have it," said Eddie Cue, VP of Apple`s iTunes.

The project, announced two months ago, is part of Apple CEO Steve Jobs` continued push to establish iTunes as a mainstream source for content.
