Oz councils pick open source
A consortium of rural and regional New South Wales councils has dumped its proprietary content management system for an open source Joomla solution, reports IT News.
From August, 46 council Web sites will be migrated to the new CMS in a $300 000 upgrade to the NSW Local Government and Shire Associations' Local-e project.
Local-e was formed in 2001 to improve smaller councils' Web publishing capabilities through shared services and joint purchasing arrangements.

The joint initiative brings together technologies to help clients enable rich media as a communication medium to better engage their employees, customers, prospects, vendors and partners.
"With digital content becoming ubiquitous, it is becoming increasingly critical for companies across all industries and geographies to better use their media assets as people expect a richer Web experience," says Mukul Krishna, global director of digital media, Frost & Sullivan.
Apple plugs iTunes hole
Apple has shipped a critical iTunes update to fix a security vulnerability that exposes Windows users to malicious hacker attacks, says ZDNet.
The latest iTunes 9.2.1 is available from Apple's download Web site for Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7.
Apple says accessing a maliciously crafted URL may lead to an unexpected application termination or arbitrary code execution.
