Packeteer, Inc (NASDAQ: PKTR), a leading provider of application traffic management solutions, today announced the availability of new software that includes the newly-developed "CNA" compression, improved compression reporting and increased ease of deployment in complex environments.
Packeteer delivers an application traffic management system via intelligent appliances at the LAN/WAN interface. This helps enterprises maximise IT investments by aligning network applications and resources with business needs, and providing significant cost savings in the process. The Packeteer system identifies, protects and accelerates key business applications and controls malicious, recreational and other non-business traffic.
"A first step to selecting a solution is identification of the problem. Yet few organisations have a solid understanding of their WAN traffic mix," said Peter Firstbrook, Program Director at META Group. "IT organisations are looking for easy to use tools that can rapidly assess network traffic, identify problems and provide remediation, without adding excess complexity to infrastructure or operations. Solutions offering a combination of WAN traffic visibility, control and compression can often meet their needs."
Packeteer provides deep visibility into traffic running on the network, industry leading bandwidth management capabilities, and advanced compression in a single integrated platform. Advanced compression capabilities ensure that Packeteer`s solution applies algorithms selectively to certain traffic types, pulling from an extensive library into which users can install algorithms as "plug-ins" as they are developed and released.
The new software release features the following:
New compression algorithm - Packeteer has released "CNA", a new addition to its algorithm library that gives users up to 10X WAN performance gains, depending on the traffic type.
Compression reporting enhancements - Additional reporting options further demonstrate compression`s value. Several new reports and additional options in existing reports allow users to more easily translate Xpress results into business value.
Compression topology fit enhancements - Several enhancements allow Packeteer compression to operate automatically and effectively in advanced topologies involving VLANs and LAN Expansion Modules (LEMs). Packeteer`s compression now stores and applies VLAN tags to traffic as it enters and exits compression tunnels between units.
Packeteer`s LEMs give users the ability to connect as many as three LANs to a single Packeteer appliance. This allows Packeteer to be deployed in more complex environments than current competitive offerings, often resulting in deployment of fewer units.
"Packeteer`s compression is the most flexible, adaptable and powerful on the market today," said Jeff Barker, director of product management for Packeteer.
"But compression is only one piece of the puzzle. The combination of visibility, control and compression that Packeteer brings to market gives users a complete solution for application traffic management, improving application performance, increasing user satisfaction and reducing overall network costs."
Based in Cupertino, California, Packeteer (NASDAQ: PKTR) is a leading provider of application traffic management systems that enable businesses to gain visibility and control of networked applications, extend network resources and align application performance with business priorities.
