IT security vendor Panda Securityhas partnered with Against Intuition, the developer of a community-based surfing tool called Web of Trust (WOT), to roll out the WOT browser add-on for safer Internet surfing.
CEO of Against Intuition, Esa Suurio, says the collaboration between the security companies aims to provide frontline protection in the battle against online threats and cyber crime.
According to a Panda Security statement, the WOT browser add-on warns Internet users about risky Web sites, providing protection against online scams, identity theft, spyware, spam, and unreliable shopping sites. WOT's protection has been enhanced with Panda's regularly updated information on malware distributors and dangerous domains.
In addition, safety ratings are provided for search results when using Google, Yahoo, Wikipedia and other sites, helping people protect their computers and personal information.
The free WOT security add-on is available for Firefox and Internet Explorer users and can be downloaded from Panda's Web site here.
The WOT add-on uses an intuitive traffic-light style rating system to help Internet users stay safe as they search, browse, and shop online. According to Panda, Web site ratings are continuously updated by five million members of the WOT community and from numerous trusted sources, such as phishing site listings.
Jeremy Matthews, head of Panda Security's sub-Saharan operations, says: “As with our cloud-based collective intelligence technologies, we believe in the power of the community to improve the safety of the user.”
