Panda ExchangeSecure is faster than similar products from Symantec, Trend Micro and MacAfee, a VeriTest study shows.

The study was designed to demonstrate the performance impact of the presence of the different solutions for Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 on the market.

The methodology involved first determining the performance of a server with no security solution installed. With this as a benchmark, the impact on system performance of each of the tested products was then measured.

Apart from the Panda solution, Symantec Mail Security for Microsoft Exchange 5.0.2, McAfee GroupShield for Exchange 6.0 and Trend ScanMail for Microsoft Exchange 7.0 were also tested, said the report.

The tests focused on evaluating the CPU usage and the average number of messages stored in the send queue and the average waiting time for clients.

As regards CPU usage, installation of the Panda Software solution resulted in an increase of 10.89%. The other products resulted in a much larger increase in CPU usage: Trend Micro 17.84%, McAfee 34.76% and Symantec 39.3%.

With the Panda Software solution installed an increase in the number of messages stored in the send queue was three (18.03% compared to a server without ), whereas the Trend Micro solution slowed down by seven messages (41.92%), the Symantec solution by 4 959 messages (28 962.86%), and the McAfee solution 20 941 messages (122 296.05%).
