Panel will trial TV viewing meter

The Broadcasters' Audience Research Board (Barb) is appointing a temporary panel to field test a new meter that will keep tabs on television that is watched through a PC or laptop, according to Research Magazine.

Households in the panel will be equipped with a 'virtual meter', based on the technology currently fitted to set-top boxes in Barb's in-home viewing panel, which can be attached to PCs or laptops.

The technology is currently being designed by TNS, Barb said, and will allow viewers to manually register when they watch audio-visual content, as well as being able to track viewing automatically.

Samsung drives 3D home theatre

Samsung Electronics has rolled out a range of audio-visual products to take consumers' audio experiences to the next level, says Hardware Zone.

Samsung has introduced a 3D home theatre system and 3D Blu-ray player as part of its plans to provide consumers with a full 3D home entertainment ecosystem.

The home theatre system and Blu-ray players also feature connectivity and come with Samsung's Internet@TV functionality that enables access to Samsung Apps, such as YouTube, allowing users to stream digital media clips directly to their TVs.

No 3D PSP in the pipeline

Sony says it has no plans to release a 3D version of its PSP handheld games console, reports IT Pro Portal.

It was speculated that Sony will roll out a 3D version of the PSP to rival Nintendo's 3DS, unveiled earlier this month at the E3 conference.

Scott Rohde, Sony Worldwide Studios vice-president, has made it clear they do not intend to pursue any plans of a 3D handheld console similar to Nintendo 3DS.
