Hewlett-Packard`s Digital Sender 8100C is an exceptionally useful device that takes advantage of scanning and e-mail technology. This machine is a scanner that instantly turns paper documents into e-mail at the touch of a button. "The major advantage of the Digisender 8100C machine is that e-mail is far cheaper than fax because you don`t incur long-distance charges," observes Traci Maynard, product manager for Hewlett-Packard peripherals at Tarsus Technologies, the distribution arm of JSE-listed MB Technologies.
According to Maynard, the Digital Sender turns the scans into PDF or TIFF files, then automatically attaches them to mail messages. "TIFF and PDF formatting preserves documents every bit as well as fax, and the machine saves the hassle of first scanning, then attaching and sending documents in the traditional manner," she adds. The machine features a sizable internal memory for email addresses, making the delivery of important information around the world as easy as sending an e-mail.

The Digisender extends the power of e-mail to paper documents and thus helps to increase efficiency - both for the sender and for the recipient, who receives the files quickly, reliably and in high quality. Because the machine connects directly to the network, it allows small to medium-sized workgroups to send paper documents without the need for a dedicated PC.
"The Digisender is the easiest way to send colour and black and white paper documents via e-mail; and thanks to HP Smart Compression technology, the HP Digital Sender 8100C keeps the file size small, minimizing impact on your network," continues Maynard.
"This device lets you eliminate frustrations and worries like standing and waiting next to the fax machine for a fax to go through or wondering whether a confidential fax may get into the wrong hands at the recipient`s end. The HP Digital Sender 8100C can help businesses slash their phone bills and send higher-quality images by switching from fax to e-mail," concludes Maynard.
The HP Digisender 8100C will be available after 3 April 2000.
