Partnering for success: IQ acquires top learning companies

The IQ Business Group and the HPL Group have set a final seal on an exciting business partnership.
Johannesburg, 13 Jun 2007

A decision taken some months ago by The IQ Business Group's (IQ) senior management team to acquire an experienced learning company was the catalyst that today sees the acquisition of the HPL Group (HPL), comprising both Hi-Performance Learning and CUDA Technologies.

The transaction sees the pooling of the joint expertise and considerable experience of IQ and HPL. From an IQ perspective, HPL broadens the value proposition by addressing the key human performance and learning components of its comprehensive business solutions.

From an HPL perspective, IQ offers both impressive BEE credentials, access to a wider national and international client base, and greater capacity and capability to deliver on large-scale learning transformation projects within the industry.

Both IQ and HPL have forged enviable reputations within their specialised fields, and both focus on implementing practical, technology-enabled solutions that deliver measurable business results. Together the partnership will seek to expand an already enviable list of top tier national and international clients, while actively growing and empowering internal staff with optimal professional development and learning support.

The acquisition supports IQ's intent on finding the right partners that are equally committed to ensuring the company maximises its contribution to the transformation and capacity-building of the SA economy. Cheryl Carolus, Chair of IQ, notes: "IQ fully appreciates the critical need to grow people's ambitions, and to make a meaningful contribution to South Africa. The inclusion of HPL within the overall value proposition is a major step in the right direction, and will enable IQ to offer business solutions that effectively address the human element of business success."

"IQ is committed to ensuring that we continually build our value proposition in clients, while training and developing staff and making a significant difference to South Africa. We are, therefore, delighted to acquire a group of learning companies that offer such proven substance," said IQ CEO, Donald Stuart.

"HPL has extensive experience in the learning market and its involvement will be a tremendous asset in not only entrenching IQ as a vibrantly energetic, can-do company with a social conscience that continues to attract highly-talented individuals, but also assist in IQ's outsourcing expansion plans."

Dayne Falkenberg, HPL MD, agrees. "Together we are able to unlock significant business value through a powerful combination of enhanced process efficiencies and staff capability, supported by practical technology enablement".
