Two international BPO providers, Stream Global Services and eTelecare Global Solutions, have formed a consolidated entity expected to create an additional 800 local jobs.
The combined body, which retains the name Stream Global Services, aims to bring job opportunities to the Western Cape's call centre business during the next 12 months, says the organisation.
According to Wynand Schutte, MD of Stream SA, this will assist with skills transfer and the exchange of best practices.
“With the assistance of SETA's call centre learnership programme, Stream will develop skills within previously disadvantaged communities, providing individuals not only with a qualification, but the opportunity to participate in the broader South African economic environment in a sustainable manner,” he says.
“The face of the call centre is changing as a result of the rapid growth the industry has seen over the last few years,” notes Schutte. “A position as a service professional at Stream provides many avenues of opportunity for individuals seeking a career in customer service and looking to develop new skills.”
He says they recruit individuals with strong people skills, a good work ethic, and those not afraid of hard work. “If employees are ambitious enough, the call centre environment provides a solid and rewarding career path,” he adds.
The company says it has implemented various leadership and management development programmes for its staff, which has increased the number of different job roles allowing for increased job progression.
“Our service professionals have been up-skilled in various ways, from being trained to take complex technical support calls, to fulfilling leadership roles within the company at a level matching that of international best practices,” says Schutte.
Not only do they have the opportunity to grow within the company, the training they receive through Stream empowers them in the marketplace as a whole, he adds.
